Camping at Chandratal Lake: New Rules, Night Temps & Stay Guide (2026)

⚡ Quick Take: Per NGT eco-regulations, camping is restricted to designated campsites located 3 km before the lake shore. Expect night temperatures between -2°C and 4°C even in peak summer.
1. The 3 km Eco-Protection Buffer Rule
To preserve the fragile high-altitude Ramsar wetland ecosystem of Chandratal (14,100 ft), pitching tents directly along the water's edge is strictly prohibited by the forest department.
Vehicles drop travelers at the official parking lot, from where an easy, picturesque 800-meter flat walk leads to the banks of the sacred crescent lake.
2. What is Included in Meraki Swiss Campsites?
Our hosted campsites at Chandratal feature:
- Heavy waterproof insulated double-layer canvas tents.
